Daily Praying for Those in Full-Time Ministry

Pastors, missionaries, and those in full-time vocational service to the Lord, need ongoing prayer, as they are on the front lines of spiritual warfare. Without prayer, their ministries will lack the Holy Spirit enabled power needed to execute their calling.

But it can sometimes be challenging to know exactly how to pray for them, and to pray effectively about the breadth of their lives and ministry. Having faced that prayer challenge myself, I decided to jot down some ideas of how to pray for those in full-time ministry daily. I hope it will help you too.

Sunday: That their hearts would be true to their first love, Jesus. Revelation 2:4 – “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.”

Monday: That they would pursue the right relationships and God would bring them good friends. Proverbs 27:17 – “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Tuesday: That when facing discouragement they would have the humility to talk to someone about it. Galatians 6:2 – “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Wednesday: That their family would be their priority over their ministry. Ephesians 5:25 – “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”

Thursday: That they would be content with where God has them, and be willing to uproot if needed. Philippians 4:11-12 – “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.”

Friday: That they would recognize their temptations toward the lust of the eyes, flesh, and pride. 1 John 2:16 – “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.”

Saturday: That they would trust in God to supply all their needs according to His riches. Philippians 4:19 – “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
